FUEL Requirements & Guidelines
The goal of Homeschool FUEL is to provide academic and social opportunities for home school families in our area.
Requirements:
1. Families must have students that are in Kindergarten or older to enroll in classes (exceptions will be made for families with preschoolers only if there are enough classrooms and teachers).
2. Commit to participate by volunteering in classrooms for two hours. If volunteering is not possible you may be approved to pay a non-volunteer fee of $25 per student, per semester; or you may be approved to be exempt from the volunteer requirement because of special circumstances. If you are not approved for the non-volunteer fee or to be exempt, you will not be allowed to participate in our program if you are unwilling to volunteer two hours. We have to limit the number of people that bring their children and do not help with classes, so that the quality of our classes does not suffer and to ensure that we do not overburden the parents that are serving. A request to receive "Non-volunteer" or "Exempt" status must be made by the preregistration deadline and approved by the Director before signups. You will find the form to make this request on the Application page.
3. Be a member of the church school cover of your choice. Please provide us with the name and phone number of your school administrator.
4. Commit to the full academic year of the FUEL program (August to April). If you feel that you have special circumstances, you may let the Director know by applying for a "Non-volunteer" or "Exempt" status.
5. Preregister by July 21, 2015 at 5:00 PM. Please go to the Application Page and fill out all 3 forms for your family. You will need to fill out a separate Student Information for each of your students. You also must pay the $40, nonrefundable pre-registration fee at this time. Also, you must read, understand, agree with, and sign these Guidelines by the preregistration deadline.
Items required for Pre-registration:
6. Each family must turn in a notarized Release of Liability. Returning families are not required to fill this out again if we have your previous copy on file.
7. All fees are paid to FUEL. Below is a list of fees, the dates that they are due, and the form of payment accepted for each.

Guidelines:
1. We are a Christian organization. Anti-Christian or anti-Biblical terms or teaching will not be permitted in the classrooms.
2. Volunteer teachers will determine the supply fees necessary for their classes. Fees are due at the class sign-up day, are non-refundable, and are paid to FUEL, not directly to teachers. Teachers will be issued a check from FUEL for their classes along with a budget sheet to keep up with expenses/receipts.
3. Parents, teachers, and students need to adhere to the following dress code for ANY FUEL event:
· No short shorts. Shorts must come below your fingertips when standing, even during gym.
· Skirts, Dresses, and Skorts must be no shorter than 1" above the knee
· Tight leggings do not count as pants. Dresses, tops, or skirts worn over leggings need to adhere to the guidelines above.
· No waistline (stomach or back) revealing shirts, shorts, or pants/jeans.
· Waistline must remain covered when bending or reaching
· No skin tight/form-fitting shirts
· Tank top straps must be at least 1 inch wide and cover any bra straps
Anyone dressed inappropriately will be asked to change or modify their clothes or leave and return after doing so.
4. Respectful and obedient behavior is expected from all student(s) at all times. Teachers are to inform parents or the person responsible for a student of any disciplinary problems.
4B. Inappropriate public display of affection, including, but not limited to, extended embracing and kissing are not allowed at FUEL. Couples are not allowed to go into a room alone or out in the parking lot alone. We want our students to be good examples for the younger children and beyond reproach in their interactions with each other. Persons displaying inappropriate behavior will be dealt with in the same manner as the "3 Strikes and You're Out" Rule.
5. Please make sure that you attend classes each week and that you arrive early. If your student misses a class that has assignments, it is their responsibility to find out what the assignment is and bring it in the following week or email it to the teacher. Students will receive a class syllabus on the first day of class for the semester.
6. If a teacher needs to be absent they must call their assistant to teach and find a helper for the assistant. Two adults should be with the students at all times. Please let the director know of your absence and who will be taking your place.
7. You may leave for errands, but please sign out at the table at the front entrance and assign another parent to be responsible for your student(s) in your absence. If you cannot attend the support group, another parent must be responsible for your student(s).
8. Please do not bring a sick student(s) to FUEL. You may send your other student(s) that are well as long as you arrange for another parent to be responsible for them.
9. Students must be in class, in the designated study area, or with a parent during support group classes. Please do not allow your student to “skip” class. This is for everyone’s safety and consideration.
10. Cell phones, iPods, or the electronic devices are NOT ALLOWED at FUEL. Students who disobey this rule will have their device taken up and turned in to the Director to be picked up at the end of the day. Teachers and parents need to be sure that their phones are on vibrate or silent and should not answer them while teaching or helping in a class, except for emergencies.
11. Teachers and students should straighten their classrooms at the end of each class before leaving. Teachers should plan to finish classes at least 5 minutes before the end of their class time to allow transition to the next class.
12. Everyone must abide by Nazareth Baptist Church’s wishes concerning the use of their facility. It is very generous of them to open their facility to our group, and we need to show our appreciation by being courteous and by treating the facility with respect and care. This includes leaving all areas as neat and clean as they were when we arrived (or neater and cleaner).
13. Supplies for classes will be provided through FUEL. Please do not use supplies that belong to Nazareth Baptist Church.
14. Inclement Weather Policy: If the news reports that DeKalb County Schools will be delayed on Tuesday, we will still have classes. If the news reports that DeKalb County Schools will be closed, we will cancel FUEL classes.
15. There will be an information center set up where you will find your folder. Please check your folder when you first arrive at FUEL and before you depart. You are required to wear name tags until you leave. These can be found and are stored in your folder.
16. We will have tornado and fire drills during the first week of classes so that everyone is informed of where to go should there be an emergency.
**These guidelines will help everyone understand expectations, prepare us for certain situations in advance, and help us manage the use of the facilities that the Lord has provided. The Leadership Team reserves the right to change policies and procedures at any time and without notice. We also reserve the right to refuse future enrollment in Homeschool FUEL.
- If teacher manuals or other materials are purchased with class fees, they become the property of FUEL and should be turned in on the last day of class. They will be kept in storage for future use. If the teacher plans to use teacher manuals for her own children or wants her own copy, she should purchase it with her own money.
- We are asking each teacher to create a lesson plan notebook for each class. Basically, a 3 ring binder with syllabus, notes, future recommendations, instructions, web sites, master copies of work sheets, etc. We would like to create a FUEL library that makes these materials available for future teachers. This is to be created with class funds and should be included in the fees charged by the teacher.
- Each teacher will create a typed syllabus for each semester stating what will be covered each week at FUEL for that class. A copy will be given to each student on the first day of class and a copy will be turned in to the Director. They syllabus can be as simple or elaborate as the teacher desires.
- Each teacher should prepare an extra lesson (with all materials needed to complete the lesson) for any unforeseen absences/emergencies. These materials need to be placed in a ziploc bag and stored in the marked crates/boxes in the FUEL storage room.
3. Parents, teachers, and students need to adhere to the following dress code for ANY FUEL event:

4. Respectful and obedient behavior is expected from all student(s) at all times. Teachers are to inform parents or the person responsible for a student of any disciplinary problems.
- We will be implementing a "3 Strikes and You're Out" Rule in regards to disrespectful/disobedient behavior. The first time that a parent/student is informed by the Director or Assistant Directors of disruptive behavior, it is considered a warning, or Strike 1. The second time is considered Strike 2 with the student being suspended for the following week of class. Strike 3 results in suspension for the semester, without refund of fees. Students will be allowed to return the following semester with the expectation that their behavior/attitude has changed. It is our hope that our students will modify their behavior as soon as it is pointed out and we won't be forced to resort to Strike 2 or Strike 3.
4B. Inappropriate public display of affection, including, but not limited to, extended embracing and kissing are not allowed at FUEL. Couples are not allowed to go into a room alone or out in the parking lot alone. - Homeschool FUEL is considered a ministry of Nazareth Baptist Church, but operates independently of the church's operations, so we ask that you DO NOT contact Nazareth Baptist Church regarding ANY co-op matters. Please direct all inquiries/concerns to the Director or Assistant Directors. If you have a question/concern about the use of the facility in regards to FUEL, you may contact the Director or Assistant Directors and we will interact with Nazareth through the Liaison.
